Stargate SG1 would not made it as far as it did without Richard Dean Anderson?
So it’s true a franchise can be built from one Actor? I would still be watching the show now even tho he’s (RDA) is not on it. Do you think its like this with other shows?
I think it wouldn’t have gotten as much attention in the beginning, and because of that wouldn’t have made it that far.
I liked Jack a lot (though I did not notice that “Macguyver” played the part). He was a (if not THE) vital part of the show. But in my opinion the show developed well and at the point RDA left, it was able to continue successful without him.
So yes, I think a show/franchise can be built on one actor but you need others to give the main character possibilities to develop, and all viewers persons they can identify with.
In the end it would be boring if we’d only watch a one man show, SG-1 always felt more like a team effort.
Without RDA the show wouldn’t have been that successful, without the other likeable actors it wouldn’t have been working either.
